This makes her completely safe: Jolyon’s support is a death knell for any cause he embraces.

For now, there are two reasons why Deborah Prentice appears secure. First, there is no obvious or credible replacement (though one may emerge). Second, two significant investigations remain outstanding: one into the Cambridge Whistleblowing tribunal, and another into the appointment of, and support provided to, Jason Arday. For plotters, it’s best to wait for those investigations to conclude so that Prentice owns the mistakes. A new Vice Chancellor will want any failings identified in them to be laid at his or her predecessor’s door.

However, Deborah Prentice is facing significant problems. She has a depleted senior leadership team, still missing key personnel. She faces opposition to her plans for rearrangement of the senior leadership and the creation of a Chief Financial Officer. And she is facing some very serious and public problems, to which so far she has not responded well.

As for Jolyon, the Good Law Project has recently announced the decision to place ownership of the organisation in a Jersey purpose trust. It’s reasonable to ask why the use of an offshore jurisdiction was necessary, what protections or advantages it provides, and whether the arrangement could ultimately have tax advantages.

Given that Good Law Project campaigns publicly on issues of corporate accountability and government transparency, it should provide clear, detailed evidence explaining why a Jersey-based structure was chosen.

(We have been redesigning the website, any glitches please report to us at data@21percent.org)

Another petition!
